Press Report
Once again students from the Junior Royal Northern College of Music provided an enthusiastic audience with an exceptional evening of music making. The performers ranged from 15 to 18 years. David Jones provided piano accompaniment where appropriate.
Angelina Dorlin-Barlow opened the concert with songs by Purcell, Schumann, Quilter and Thiman, sung with clarity and precision. In the second half she sang songs by Handel and Hahn, finishing with a spirited performance of “Nice work if you can get it” by Gershwin.
Catrin Round (oboe) gave us much to enjoy, with a sonata by Telemann and two of the Romances for Oboe and Piano by Schumann.
The cornet might be regarded as the little brother of the trumpet, but it certainly made a big impact in the hands of Adam Nield. In the first half he played two pieces by Peter Graham, one of which appeared to be variations on “How great thou art” and he brought the concert to a rousing conclusion with “The Débutanté” by Herbert Clarke.
Harry Woodfield demonstrated the aptness of the guitar to a performing space such as the Drama Studio with “Granada” and “Sevilla” by Albeniz and “Duas Contas” by Garoto.
